Deputy Chief of Staff Plans
Major General Jerzy Biziewski was born on 10th August 1955. He graduated from the Mechanized Infantry College in Wrocław (currently the Academy of Land Forces) in 1979 and the General Staff Academy in Warsaw (currently the National Defence Academy) in 1988. His educational background also includes a post-graduate operational course at the Royal Danish Defence College (1996), the NATO School Oberammergau (Germany), and at HMS DRYAD (Great Britain). His military service started in 1979 when he became a Platoon Commander and then a Company and Battalion Commander in the 49th Mechanized Regiment, where he served until 1985.
Between 1988 and 1990 he served as a Chief of Staff of the 36th Mechanized Regiment in Trzebiatów. From 1990 to 1994 he completed PhD studies, and, at the same time, he was a lecturer at the National Defence Academy where he successfully defended his PhD thesis.
Between 1996 and 1998 he was an Adjunct Professor in the division of tactics and then in the division of strategy at the National Defence Academy in Warsaw.
From 1998 to 2002 he worked for the Strategic - Operational Directorate J3 of the Polish Armed Forces General Staff. In the following years (2002 to 2005) he was the Head of Movement and Transportation Branch for the JFC HQ NORTH Brunssum (Holland). Between 2005 and 2006 he was a Deputy Chief of Current Operations J3 in the Polish Armed Forces General Staff. From 2006 to 2008 he was COM 1st Armoured BDE. During this period Major General Biziewski was appointed the Commander of the second rotation of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan in 2007 and successfully led it throughout its mission.
From 2009 to mid-2010 he served as a Deputy Chief of Strategic – Planning Directorate J5 for the Polish Armed Forces General Staff.
On 29 May 2010 he commenced his tour of duty as the COM 2nd Mechanized Corps.
On 01 August 2013 Major General Biziewski joined SHAPE to take up the post of Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans (DCOS PLANS).
